The Cabugao Institute celebrated her 84th Foundation Anniversary on February 11, 12 and 13, 2011. Many alumni arrived from abroad to participate in the celebration. Serving as co-hosts were Classes ‘61, ‘71 and ‘86.
The 3-day affair started with a marathon race dubbed CHAIRMAN VICTORINO A. SAVELLANO MEMORIAL RUN, sponsored by Vice-Gov. DEOGRACIAS VICTOR B. SAVELLANO, in memory of his late father who served as the 3rd Director of the Cabugao Institute. The participants first paraded around the town. Starting from the CI and ending at the Barangay Baclig Hall. From there, they raced to the Salomague Port and back to the Cabugao Institute. Substantial cash prizes were awarded to the winners.
The mass in memory of deceased Founders, Administrators, Faculty, Staff and Students, took place in the school auditorium at 8:00 a.m. on February 12. Celebrant was Rev. Fr. Wilfred Corpuz, a member of CI Class “86. After the mass, the alumni gathered at the CANCA HALL for the General Assembly. Everyone enjoyed a sumptuous lunch, courtesy of the host classes.
Parents, Alumni & Students (PALS) Night started at 7:30 p.m. There was a lot of dancing, and intermission numbers were rendered by various alumni groups and individuals. Serving as emcees were Felix Sana of Class ’61, Rolando Savellano, of Class ’71, Maxfel Suboc of Class ’86 and Faculty Member Victoria S. Sagun.
The Royal Parade featuring MISS CI 2011 and members of the Royal Court started at 8:30 a.m. on February 13. From the CI grounds, it wound its way around the town, along a route lined with lustily cheering spectators. The alumni led by the host classes were among the many participants.
The queen and princesses rode on their respective floats with the student sections marching behind.
The Playground Demonstration began at 3:30 p.m. and the first number was the CI Marching Band Exhibition. Then the CAT Officers did a silent Drill, and they performed like they were cadets of the Philippine Military Academy. The Pass-in-Review by the whole cadet corps came next. Then the dance numbers: LAWISWIS KAWAYAN by 4th year students, ZAPATYA by 3rd year students, and NASUDI by 1st year students. A mammoth crowd surrounded the parade ground and cheered the performers. It was nearing sunset when the affair ended.
The program on Coronation Night, February 13, started at 8:00 p.m. The auditorium was packed with participants and spectators. Respondent in their formal attires were the School Queen and members of the Royal Court. Again, there was a lot of dancing and intermission numbers.
MISS CABUGAO INSTITUTE 2011 is DARLENE UDANI, a 4th year student. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. NICOLAS UDANI (nee DOROTHEA RONDON) both high school teachers. Crowning guest was MS. ANGELITA SERRANO, a member of CI Class ’61 who was also MISS CABUGAO INSTITUTE 1958. She is a nurse by profession, presently working in Canada.
