One of the aims of this administration is to alleviate the production level of our fisherfolks.
Sustained programs are the fish sanctuaries in five coastal barangays – Dardarat, Pug-os, Salapasap, Sabang and Salomague – with a total area of five (5) hectares. These sanctuaries were assessed early this year and have been found sustainable and developing.
Barangays Dardarat, Salomague and Sabang host a total of twenty-five (25) hectares of Mangrove Area Reforestation. These are maintained and further developed by the concerned barangays.
To further enhance their knowledge of seaweed production and mariculture, trainings and workshops were conducted for 30 beneficiaries aiming to establish a sea garden favorable for marine species and as a livelihood project for fisherfolks. This program was co-funded with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). Meanwhile, aside from existing eucheuma farming in Brgy. Dardarat, another is established in Brgy. Sabang last March 28, 2011 (also with the sea urchin project).
For a more sustainable bangus production for fishermen’s association, a Bangus Fry (Rehab) was established in Brgy. Dardarat with 10,000 pieces given to recipients. Another co-funded program with the BFAR.
These programs are complemented with the establishment of the Fish Nursery last July 31, 2011 with a 5,000 potential breeder fingerlings and co-funded by the BFAR.
With these programs and the reorganization of the fishermen’s associations, it is the goal of this administration to alleviate the conditions of our fisherfolks and improve & maximize fish catch in our municipality.
