IPM-Kasakalikasan joint programs with LGU launched

The Integrated Pest Management-Kasakalikasan,  a program from the national government, recently established programs complementing with the Local Government Unit’s programs on agriculture.

Most noted program is the Farmer’s Field School on Corn Production held in Sitio Balungabing, Turod Patac which was launched last December 25, 2010. Thirty five farmer participants successfully completed the curriculum introduced by the Agricultural Training Institute primarily on Adragogy. It is the aim of this project to equip farmers from the said barangay with innovative technologies and know-how specifically on corn production.

Technology Demonstration projects are also in cooperation with IPM-Kasakalikasan like the Hybrid and Inbred Production of Rice established in Barangays Cuancabal, Pila and Pug-os in 2010 and in Barangays Namruangan and Bungro in 2011. Every demonstration site has five hectare clusters funded by the Department of Agriculture Regional Office while 10 one-hectare sites were funded by the LGU.

The IPM-Kasakalikasan program instills in the farmers the usage of organic pesticides although it affirms the utilization of chemicals only as a last resort.
