MUNICIPAL GREENHOUSE, FARMERS CAN DO OFF-SEASON FARMING ON VEGETABLES!

Cabugao, Ilocos Sur – The Local Government Unit of Cabugao through the leadership of Mayor Ediboy S. Cobangbang, Jr. requested a Greenhouse Project from the Department Of Agriculture (DA) under the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) where to raise hybrid vegetable crops and propagation of hybrid vegetable seedlings to cater the needs of vegetable growers in the locallity.

Mayor Ediboy wants that new trend of technological know-how  be transferred to farmers and  to be replicated in all areas that are potential in vegetable farm  production. The Mayor has stressed that the farmers must obtain  a qualitative production of vegetables to ensure the participation of the latter  in  a competitive market,  higher yields  and increase of income.

According to Mr. Obas Bill Baclig,  Municipal Technologist and  Greenhouse  Coordinator, their office is  planning to conduct a  training on vegetable production on the first week of November 2011 to be participated in by 35 vegetable growers concentrating on raising green-leafy vegetables such as lettuce, pechay, etc. At present, they grow honeydew melon and tomato, both are hybrid in kind. They were planted on July and August respectively.

The Greenhouse was funded by the HVCDP from the DA and the LGU Cabugao. It has been managed by the DA-LGU Personnel  at this point in time and supervises by the DA-RFU 1 Representatives from DA-RFU 1, San Fernando City, La Union.# (Obas Bill S. Baclig)
