Cabugao, Ilocos Sur – The Provincial Health Office of Ilocos Sur sponsored an Orientation about the Sexually Transmitted Infection/ Human Immunodeficiency Virus/ Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (STI/ HIV/AIDS) Prevention and Control Program and it was held at the Municipal Conference Hall, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur on May 14, 2014 that was participated in by the Barangay Captains of Cabugao as well as the Personnel of the Municipal Health Office-RHU Cabugao headed by Dr. Bernardino M. De Gracia III, OIC Municipal Health Officer.
Municipal Mayor Edgardo “Ediboy” S. Cobangbang, Jr. attended the said Orientation and expressed the support of the LGU to cooperate in addressing this global concerns and stressed the importance of being updated about this advocacy. He also exhorted the cooperation of the Local and Barangay Officials as well and the Health Sector to do their part.
The Objectives of said Orientation were discussed by the Lecturers to the participants as follows:
1.The HIV Advocacy is very crucial to the public because the young people are considered as one of the most vulnerable groups for HIV infection. One of the most important service interventions to halt the spread of HIV infection amongst young people is strengthening HIV/AIDS advocacy. It is believed that through provision of accurate and correct information on HIV/AIDS to the young people, they are in the better position to protect themselves from the infection.
2.Technical Assistance to Local Government Units (LGUs) is one of the Effective Local Responses to mitigate HIV/AIDS.
The different assistance on how to mobilize the local government units to enact ordinances, implement programs and provide services to reduce the increasing prevalence of STI/HIV.
This capacity building enables local officials with appropriate information, policies and tools to mainstream effective and sustained local HIV/AIDS responses at their local government units.
With the drawn support of the Local Officials in LGU, this will contribute in the achievement of non-discriminatory environment and provide resources for implementation of various STI/HIV services in the LGUs. # (Web In-Action)
