Cabugao, Ilocos Sur - There were Seed companies that participated in the Hybrid Rice Derby Program conducted by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 1 and the LGU-Cabugao headed by Mayor Josh Edward S. Cobangbang in a model farm located in Sitio Callaguip, Barangay Baclig, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur implemented recently.
During the culmination program, it was attended by cooperator-farmers, Municipal Agriculturists and Technicians contemplating the bounty of hybrid rice and to learn the cultural management practices of hybrid rice varieties and to find suitable varieties for their respective area.
A techno forum followed after the site visit where farmers were allowed to interact with the seed companies.
This Hybrid Rice Derby will be a great a help to farmers because it present a demonstration area where they can observe and learn various practices that can help them improve their palay production.
This activity will give better impact for they will know its yield per hectare compared to inbred rice. The use of hybrid technology is one of the Department of Agriculture strategies to cope up with the climate change.
Present also during the Hybrid Rice Derby Techno Forum was SPM Efren Rafanan, Committee Chairman on Agriculture of Ilocos Sur and Mr. Marcelino Alibin of OPAG Ilocos Sur and other Officials of the local government as well as the RFO 1. # ADAPTED.
