62ND PALARONG PAMBANSA OFFICIALLY ENDS IN DAVAO CITY

The 62nd edition of the Palarong Pambansa saw student-athletes from all over the country break a number of records—32 to be exact—forever cementing themselves a place in the history of the flagship sports program of the Department of Education (DepEd).

DepEd Undersecretary and Palarong Pambansa Secretary General Revsee Escobedo, and Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte, together with other DepEd and local government officials, graced the closing ceremonies.

After a grueling week of intense competition, the National Capital Region (NCR) once again reigned as the overall champion, followed by Region IV-A CALABARZON and Region VI Western Visayas for the second and third spots, respectively.

Mayor Duterte gave her message of gratitude to the student-athletes for their remarkable sportsmanship in this year’s Palaro.

“To our athletes, you played your best and embodied the true meaning of sportsmanship and for that, we all congratulate you. Where you will go from here is up to you, but I am confident that with your determination and passion, and with the support of your families, coaches, and friends, success will always be within your reach.”

The symbolic extinguishing of the unity cauldron signaled the official closing of the 2019 Palarong Pambansa.

After a grueling week of intense competition, athletes from all the regions trooped to Davao City-UP Sports Complex to witness the closing ceremonies of the 2019 Palarong Pambansa.
One of the highlights of the closing ceremonies was the audio visual presentation (AVP) of athletes from different regions narrating how Palaro changed their lives and the valuable experiences they gained from the sporting event.

This year’s special awards went to: Region V (Bicol Region) for the Most Disciplined Delegation; Region XII (SOCCSKSARGEN) for the Most Organized Delegation; Mintal Elementary School of Region XI (Davao Region) for the Best Billeting Quarter; Region V (Bicol Region) for the Cleanest, Greenest, and Eco-Friendly Quarter Delegation; and Region IV-A CALABARZON as the champion for the Special Games. The top winners up to the second runner-up received cash prize and a trophy.

Escobedo also announced the Province of Occidental Mindoro as the Palaro host next year.

The closing program ended with the official Palaro song and dance number, followed by a local band performance for the student-athletes. #  Source – www.deped.gov.ph
