The Department of Health (DOH) today advised those who are experiencing water shortage to make sure that their drinking water is safe to avoid illnesses.
“It is important to ensure the quality of your drinking water through simple, inexpensive steps to treat and safely store water in your homes to avoid falling ill,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III declared.
DOH authorities said that drinking water from unsafe sources can be made safe for drinking by boiling or by using chlorine tablets. Bring water to a boil and allow it to boil for two (2) minutes to kill disease-causing organisms. Chlorinating water for drinking is an alternative way to make it safe but it may not be effective against some disease-causing organisms, such as those that cause watery diarrhea.
“In the midst of the water shortage crisis, continue observing personal hygiene to avoid common diseases such as scabies, diarrhea and other food and waterborne diseases,” Secretary Duque also said, adding that the limited amount of water may tempt many to forego personal hygiene habits such as taking a bath and frequent washing of hands.
Let us conserve water, adapt to the limited water supply and make sure to prioritize cleanliness and personal health at all times,” the health chief advised. # Source – www.doh.gov.ph
