HUNDREDS of job seekers flock to Ilocos Sur Provincial Capitol, Monday morning on June 1, 2015 to grab the province wide job fair. The Provincial Government together with the Department of Labor and Employment initiated the activity to address the unemployment and underemployment in the province. It seeks to cater especially the newly graduates of different courses this year.
“We will try to conduct job fair as often as we can so that the job seekers no longer need to go to Manila to apply for a job.”, Governor Ryan Singson said as he graces the opening of the Jobs Fair. More than 16,000 job vacancies are offered by both local and overseas employment agencies. The thirteen overseas man power agencies are seeking for the skilled and professional workers such as nurses, engineers, carpenters, welders and electrician. These are in demand in the countries of Qatar and Dubai where a lot of ports are constructed. Jobs such as in BPO’s, marketer, account executives and administrative assistants are offered by the local employment agencies. The activity provides an avenue to the fresh graduates to experience their first step in pursuing their career, like Juvilyn Ayto who is a graduate of Business Management. “Maganda nga eh lalo na sa aming mga fresh graduates kasi hindi na naming kailangang gumastos ng marami at lumayo pa para makapag-apply.”
She said thanking the government. To providhe job seekers wider options, the DOLE installs the Job Search Kiosk inside the Provincial Capitol. DOLE Regional Director Grace Ursua says that this machine will help the job seekers to look for work opportunities that fit their skills.
“The employment agencies are required by the Department to register and publish their job vacancies so that these would be accessible to job seekers”, she said. According to the DOLE, there are around eight hundred applicants whose papers will be processed by the employment agencies. There are also those who are hired on the spot. The activity is initiated by Governor Ryan Luis V. Singson in celebration of his birthday on June 1, 2015. He chooses to be the one giving presents to the Ilocanoes than him receiving one. # Adapted News – PIO Ilocos Sur
