Out of 1,821 total registrants during the Kalayaan Jobs Fair on June 12, some 333 job applicants successfully found employment.
“The numbers represent 18.29 percent of the 1,821 total registrants whose ages range from 18 to 57,” regional director Grace Y. Ursua of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-1) said.
On Freedom Day, jobs fair were simultaneously conducted in three venues in Ilocos region namely at Candon Civic Center, Candon City in Ilocos Sur at the Nepo Mall, Dagupan City in Pangasinan and at the Manna Mall in San Fernando City, La Union.
Mostly, fresh graduates and those searching for more advanced employment were served during said activity.
Per province, the most number of hired applicants is from Ilocos Sur with 172, Pangasinan with 107 and La Union with 54.
Ursua said those whose age is between 20 and 25 years old were hired as cashiers, front desk officers, office personnel, company nurses and nursing aides, customer service representatives, merchandizers and secretaries.
She also added that some 1,808 more are set for further interview.
“We expect to receive reports of more hires considering the high number of applicants who have been referred for further interview. I have instructed our field offices to do regular monitoring with our participating employers,” the regional director said.
Aside from the jobs fair, free pampering services such as haircut, manicure, pedicure and massage were offered at the Candon Civic Center at no cost while check-up of blood pressure and blood sugar were provided for free at the Manna Mall.
In total, there were 21,943 vacancies offered by 62 local and 22 overseas employers.
