Cognizant of the fundamental rights of persons with disability (PWD), Secretary Mel Senen S. Sarmiento of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is urging all local government units (LGUs) to support the 38th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week on July 17 to 23, 2016.
In a directive addressed to all provincial governors, city mayors, municipal mayors, and punong barangays, Sarmiento enjoined LGUs to conducting fitting activities such as but not limited to the following:
•Walk for your rights
•Exhibit of assistive devices and technology for PWDs
•Orientation and Disability-Inclusive DRRM
•Orientation on Disability Mandates for Local Legislators
•Orientation on Parents and Advocates in the LGUs on the Rights of Children with Disability (CWDs)
•Forum on Disability Inclusive Corporate Social Responsibility
•Forum on Accessibility, Universal Design, and Accessibility Audit for Architects and Engineers
•Forum on the Role of Professionals in the Management of Disabilities
•Paligsahan ng may K sa Kasaysayan ng Kultura ng Pilipinas
•Inclusive Quiz “D” (for PWDs and non-PWDs)
•Art Workshop for PWDs
Administrative Order No. 35 series of 2002 has declared the third week of July of every year as NDPR Week.
This year’s theme “Karapatan ng Maykapansanan, Isakatuparan…Now Na!” focuses on the realization of the fundamental freedom and rights of PWD as provided for in existing international mandates and national laws.
“Dapat manguna ang ating mga LGUs sa pagsasagawa ng mga polisiya at programang nagtataguyod sa mga karapatan ng mga PWDs,” said Sarmiento. # Source – www.dilg.gov.ph
