FAMILY, FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE OF YOUTH AGAINST ILLEGAL DRUGS

FAMILY is still the first defense of a child against illegal drugs, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO) during the Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week in the province.

Carmeliza Singson, Provincial Health Office  Chief, said a child generates security from the family home where he learns various skills and where his behavior and personality are molded.

The unity of parents in giving time, attention and love to their children is the best way to keep them away from drugs and vices, Singson said.

“If inside the home, these three are given him, he will never search for these outside,” she added.

The lack of time, attention and love is a common reason for children to use drugs and try other vices that is why the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program of the national government has been helping in training couples to become responsible parents, Singson said.

Singson added all the sectors of the community must unite to strengthen the family.

Programs that train the young in various skills and sports keeping them from drugs and other vices, must continue as part of the thrusts of the national and local governments to stop drug abuse in the country, she said.# (Adapted, Tawidnews)
