THE ILOCOS SUR provincial board will tap rivers and creek as alternative water sources using small water impounding system to address water shortage during the dry season next year.
Board member Pablito Sanidad, Jr., said many rivers and creeks dry up during summer which results in lack of adequate water supply for crops, fisheries, and livestock.
The provincial government has targetted as a priority the development of water collection facilities to help farmers and fisherfolks cope with the dry season.
The cities of Vigan and Candon including the 32 municipalities in Ilocos Sur have been asked to identify the villages where a small water impounding facility shall be established.
The program of work will be initially funded from the 20 percent development fund of the province’s Internal Revenue Allotment share.
The Ilocos Sur government also hopes to optimize the utilization of rivers and creeks through rehabilitation using series of impounding facilities for a more significant and sustainable economic development for farmers and fisherfolks particularly in upstream municipalities.# Adapted - Tawidnews
