27TH NATIONAL STATISTICS MONTH (NSM) AND 13TH NATIONAL CONVENTION ON STATISTICS (NCS)

The month of October of every year was declared as the National Statistics Month pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647, issued on 20 September 1990 by then President Corazon C. Aquino with the objectives to promote, enhance and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society; and to elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.

Now on its 27th year, the National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration coincides with the 13th National Convention on Statistics (NCS) on October 3-4, 2016. The NCS is being conducted every three years by the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) which aims to provide a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences in the field of statistics and for discussing recent statistical developments and prevailing issues and problems of the PSS; and to elicit the cooperation and support of statisticians and professionals in related field from the government, academe and private sector towards a more responsive statistical system.

For this year, the overall theme is “Sustainable Development: Making Statistics Count.” Various activities will be conducted for the whole month of October sponsored by the different national government agencies (NGAs), government-owned and controlled corporations, local government units, academe, as well as private companies and organizations. These activities include symposia, workshops, orientation-seminars, exhibits, slide shows and publications of statistical reports, indicators and other relevant information, among others, with particular emphasis on the theme. Streamer/tarpaulin will also be posted on the building facade of the Departments/agencies at the central and regional levels and local government units throughout the month of October. #  Source – www.dilg.gov.ph
