REGION 1 RECOGNIZED ANEW FOR HAVING THE MOST NUMBER OF SGLG PASSERS

The Department of the Interior Local Government (DILG) cited Region 1 for having the highest number of passers of Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) implementation in three consecutive years from 2015 to 2017.

Director James E. FAdrilan, head of DILG Region 1, led the DILG regional staff in receiving the award in a ceremony held at the Linden Suites, Pasig City on December 13.

This year, locos Region is a recipient of the most improved region award in terms of financial administration for having the most number of SGLG passers for three consecutive years and fewer dropouts.

Region 1 was also recognized for having a 100 percent Good Housekeeping passing rate and as the most improved region on environmental management.

Local Government Operations Officer Hope Ordonio, also Region 1’s SGLG focal person, said that for 2017 SGLG search, Region 1 bagged the most awards with a total of 68 local government units comprised of three provincial governments, eight cities, and 57 municipalities.

She said that those LGUs qualified for the most coveted SGLG award must comply with the '4+1’ assessment criteria or the four core areas namely: financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, and the new additional area peace and order.

The qualified LGUs should also pass at least one essential area, either, business friendliness and competitiveness; tourism, culture and the arts; or environmental protection.

All SGLG passers were conferred with a marker to be placed in their provincial, city, or municipal halls and a Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) and an incentive in millions of pesos to be used for local development projects.

This year, 448 LGUs all over the country clinched the SGLG seal. Among the total number of awardees, 28 were provinces, 61 were cities, and 359 were municipalities. The SGLG recipients this year was 46.4 percent higher than the 306 LGU recipients in 2016. # Source -  (Philippine Information Agency (PIA- Region 1).
