World Braille Day is celebrated every year on 4th January around the world to commemorate the birthday of Louis Braille. The celebration is to acknowledge the value of simple and useful communication device for deaf and mute. Due tot the creation of the braille, the less fortunate members of the society are given the opportunity to educate themselves and reduce their obstacles in contributing the society.
Louis Braille was born in France. At the age of 3, he accidentally became blind. However, he had a great yearning to be able to read and write properly, despite his disability. An attentive kid at school, at the age of 15, he developed a set of symbols by making raised dots on a piece of paper.
Braille is a writing and reading system based on touch, used in many languages, the braille is the world’s first binary encoding system in lieu of the letters of a writing structure. # Source – www.dilg.gov.ph
