VIGAN, NOW A WONDER CITY OF THE WORLD!

AFTER exactly two months of waiting, most biguenos, city officials and employees headed by Mayor Eva Marie Medina joined by Ilocos Sur Gov. Ryan Luis V. Singson, former governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, provincial board member Jeremias “Jerry” Singson, some civic leaders and media practitioners in the province were relieved of anxiety and restlessness as Vigan has been luckily included among the seven wonder cities in the world!

The city government of Vigan held its Christmas party as early as of Sunday to coincide with the long-awaited announcement of the lucky cities which are included in the list of seven wonders in the world. As planned earlier, the city officials and employees were advised to hold the celebration and merrymaking up to 3:00am as a vigil while the group are waiting for the result, or declaration of the much awaited new seven wonder cities of the world. While the group was waiting for the result, musical competitions and various cultural presentations such as dances and drama skits were performed by clustered departments and offices. Along this line, the said musical competition dubbed as “drumbeat contest” was won by the UNP Marching Band followed by the Pangada-Caba ruan(Sta. Catalina) Marching Band which landed second place. The three other performers on this con test category—ISNHS Marching Band, VNHS-East Marching Band and VNHS-West Marching Band received their consolation prizes respectively. As the merry-mak
ing went on, raffle draws were intervalled with the cultural presentations wherein fabulous prizes were given away. When Vigan was declared as one of the chosen new seven wonder cities of the world, both the provincial and city officials joined hands in celebrating triumphantly. “On behalf of the city government, I express our deepest gratitude to those who in one way or another have contributed to the success of Vigan- for having chosen as one of the new seven wonder cities of the world. This is not only a victory for biguenos, it is also victory for all Filipinos,” Mayor Medina said during a short press interview right after the proclamation of this world heritage city as one of the newly chosen seven wonders cities. For his part, Gov. Ryan Singson congratulated Vigan for its inclusion to the new seven wonder cities of the world even as he said, “Whatever positive outcome that Vigan may attain in the future, Ilocos Sur in particular will greatly be benefitted especially in the tourism aspect. So, there’s a
need to improve our airport for this purpose.” The governor also assured the assistance of the provincial government in the forthcoming big celebration for Vigan’s victory. It must be remembered that the incumbent governor and the two congressmen of the province, so with the other members of the Singson family have been very much supportive to this endeavour: massive campaign for Vigan’s inclusion to the new seven wonder cities of the world up to the extent of donating financial assistance for this purpose. # (Adapted, Website-Ilocos Sur)
