DILG PARTNERS WITH GALING POOK FOR BEST PRACTICES IN GOOD GOVERNANCE

Secretary Ismael “Mike” D. Sueno warmly welcomed the continued partnership of Galing Pook Foundation with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in the advocacy of best practices in good governance.

“As a Department, we’ve always opened our doors to fruitful public-private partnerships,” Sueno said in a briefing held at the DILG central office recently. “Because of our engagement with Galing Pook, the good programs in the local government units (LGUs) have been placed in the spotlight. We find ways to identify the frontrunners in the LGUs who will serve as good examples in President Duterte’s administration.”

DILG and the Local Government Academy (LGA) first established ties with Galing Pook in 1993, which was organized as a private awards-giving program for LGUs and certified as a foundation in 1998.

Since then, Galing Pook has spearheaded for the LGUs the Galing Pook Awards for the Top 10 Best Programs and Practices around the country; the Jesse M. Robredo Award, after the late former Interior Secretary, now on its third year; and the new Galing Pook Citizenship Awards to recognize excellent efforts in service and innovation among non-government organizations (NGOs) and civil society organizations (CSOs).

Sueno voiced his excitement upon his invitation to the organization’s Local Governance Fair to be held from October 17-18 at Novotel in Cubao, where local chief executives, representatives of the national agencies, and others from the private sector will be in attendance.
The Fair will feature presentations on best programs and practices in government, and policy forums in the areas of health, education, agriculture, climate change and adaptation, and international global innovation. A prime topic of discussion will be federalism in President Duterte’s new government.

The Secretary personally thanked both the Galing Pook members and his colleagues for their engagement, saying, “As your new SILG, I appreciate my peers in the LGUs and in the private sector whom I can consult anytime on good governance, and who invite us to these events. They inspire me to lead the Department with the best of my ability.” # Source – www.dilg.gov.ph
