HISTORIC CABUGAO TOWN CATCHES UP AS TOURIST HAVEN IN ILOCOS

(PIA) - This historic town dubbed as the “Boracay of the North” is now a tourist destination because of its rich history, panoramic beaches and shorelines covered in white sand.

Town councilor Benedict Savellano said that the Ilocos Surians Association of Hawaii headed by Danny Villaruz, a native of Rancho, Santa admired the tourism potentials of this coastal town where the famous Sacada monuments were erected in the Salomague Port.

Cabugao is known as the site where the first wave of Ilocano migrants to Hawaii collectively known as Sacadas originated.

“Vigan is not the only tourist attraction in the heritage city of Ilocos Sur. Cabugao has many scenic spots and historical landmarks to show,” the first cousin of Vice-Gov. DV Savellano said.

The  “Puerto” will be transformed as a tourist destination and a trading post in the Ilocos with the support of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) through its Philippine Fisheries Development Authority which allotted P26 million to upgrade its fish port.

Savellano said the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) will also help in the rehabilitation of this international container port to accommodate international vessels.

The Sabang beach with powdered white sands is now considered as the “Surfing Capital of the North” as the Department of Tourism and the Ilocos Sur provincial government launched last year the national surfing competitions, beach volleyball and boat racing.  # Adapted - (MCA/Ben P.
