ILOCOS SUR ADVANCES 3 NOTCHES IN RIAA 2016

The Province of Ilocos Sur bagged 20 gold medals which made the province the 7th place among the fourteen contenders in the Region One Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet held in San Carlos City last February 21-26, 2016.


The Ilocos Sur team had marked up three-level higher than its rank last year being a 10th placer.     
     
The athletes who won the gold medals are player of athletics, badminton, boxing, chess and taekwondo. The team also bagged 25 silver medals and 22 bronze medals from the different sports categories.
      
Students from 5 provincial division and 9 city division competed to defend their schools and to showcase their skills in various fields. As the week-long competition started, good sportsmanship was taught to the students to realize the true essence of being a winner.
      
The Department of Education Ilocos Sur and the Provincial Government provided rigid training to prepare their athletes physically, mentally and emotionally fit in the battle field. They also hired national trainers to hone the ability of the students according to their forte.
     
Gov. Ryan Singson congratulates the athletes for bringing honor to the province.
      
“I am very proud of our young athletes. This honor you brought to our province is more important than those medals. Rest assure, the province will give more attention to our sports development program to develop more competitive athletes among our youth.” Gov. Ryan said.

This year’s ranking of delegations composed of Pangasinan II being the overall champion, Dagupan City as the 2nd place, La Union as the 3rdplace, Urdaneta City the 4th place, Ilocos Norte the 5th place, Pangasinan I 6th place, Ilocos Sur 7th place, Batac City 8th place, Laoag City 9th place, San Fernando 10th place, San Carlos City, 11th place, Alaminos City 12th place, Vigan City 13th place and Candon City 14th place. # Source – PIO Ilocos Sur
