LGUs ADVISED TO SUPPORT WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES DAY

In line with the observance of Women with Disabilities Day on March 28 this year, Secretary Mel Senen S. Sarmiento of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is encouraging all Local Chief Executives (LCEs) to conduct fitting activities to promote the full participation of women with disabilities in national development.

“Mahalaga na mahikayat ang mga kababaihan na may espesyal na pangangailangan na maisama ang kanilang mga adhikain sa kabuuang plano ng pamahalaang nasyunal,” said Sarmiento.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Kapakanan at Karapatan ni Juanang May Kapansanan, Isama sa Plano ng Bayan.”

In his directive, the DILG Secretary also urged LCEs to support Women With Disabilities Day by undertaking the following activities in their respective areas:

•Hanging of advocacy streamers/tarpaulins in strategic places. The design/lay-out of the tarpaulin can be downloaded from the National Council of Disability Affairs (NCDA) website at http://www.ncda/gov.ph.
•Conduct of Orientation-Workshop cum Communication Planning on Republic Act 10354 otherwise known as “The Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012”

•Conduct of forum on Reproductive Health Law and Action Research on Gender and Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM).

“Hinihikayat natin ang mga lokal na opisyal na maging aktibo sa pagsulong ng kapakanan ng mga kababaihang may kapansanan,” the DILG Chief said.  # Source – www.dilg.gov.ph
