PGIS ACHIEVES EXCELLENCE IN KALUSUGAN PANGKALAHATAN AWARD

The Department of Health awarded the “Excellence in Kalusugan Pangkalahatan” to the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur recognizing their hardwork in strengthening health systems to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of delivery of basic health services and enable a more equitable distribution of national health programs.

Various awards were given to LGU’s and health workers in a program held at the SMX Convention Center ,Pasay last February 20,2015 . The major award is the Excellence in Kalusugan Pangkalahatan Awards 2014 wherein the LGUs were recognized for their invaluable contribution in achieving Kalusugan Pangkalahatan. This award aims to recognize LGUs (provinces/cities/municipalities) that exhibited commendable performance on health as reflected in the DOH 2013 LGU Score Card Report. Ilocos Sur is one of the Top 10 provinces selected from among 80 provinces.On the 5 Independent Component Cities (ICCs) category, Vigan lands the top spot while Candon is number 3. The municipality of Bantay enters top 10 among 1,490 Municipalities. For the 2014 Excellence in KP Awards, there were 40 winners where the cash prize ranged from P50,000.00 to P1,000,000.00. Governor Ryan Singson lauded the Provincial Health Office, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers and DOH Region 1 in implementing universal health care programs for all Ilocosurians. “We will use this award as an inspiration to serve and ensure our province mates with the best quality health care.”, Gov. Ryan said. Meanwhile, acting DOH Sec. Janette Garin said that these health awards are used in order to leverage LGU participation in achieving Kalusugan Pangkalahatan. “We congratulate the local chief executives for being our champions in health.
