In support of the 2015 World Food Day (WFD) Celebration on October 16, the Department of Education (DepEd) Region I conducted the On the Spot Mosaic Poster Making Contest on September 28, 2015 at the National Educational Academy of the Philippines Region 1 (NEAP R-1), San Vicente, San Fernando City, La Union.
The activity aimed to raise public awareness about hunger challenges and encourage people to take action in the fight against hunger and poverty. This is in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, National Nutrition Council (NNC), Food Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), and the Philippine Council for Agricultural and Fishery (PCAF).
The contest featured illustrations using any art medium except oil and water color, and a combination of agricultural and fishery products like palay grains, mongo, squash seeds, corn kernels/ husks, sea shells, dried sea weeds and others.
Among the participants, Kristine Sheyne Obillo of Maburac Elementary School in Villasis, Pangasinan emerged as the regional winner. Danessa Faye Caracas of Alaminos Central School in Alaminos City, Pangasinan and Lyndzie Amor Taroma of Banna Central ES in Ilocos Norte garnered second and third prize, respectively.
The regional winner received cash prize and will be competing at the national level on October 10, 2015 at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) Convention Hall, Visayas Avenue, Quezon City. Awarding of the Best Mosaic Posters on the national level will be on October 16, 2015 at the Liwasang Aurora, Quezon City.
The annual WFD mosaic poster making contest conducted by DA and DepEd, is open to all Grades 4-6 learners, not older than 12 years old enrolled in any public and DepEd accredited or recognized private elementary schools and certified by the school head or principal.
According to the World Farmer’s Organization, this year’s theme, “Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty” has been chosen to highlight the importance in poverty reduction and granting access to food. # Source – depedro1.com.ph
