PROVINCIAL GOVT. HONORS ILOCOS SUR TEACHERS

More than four thousand teachers from public and private elementary and secondary schools in Ilocos Sur gathered in the Quirino Stadium in Bantay Ilocos Sur to celebrate the World Teachers’ Day.

The celebration of World Teachers’ Month started last September 5 until October 5 which had been declared by the United Nations as World Teachers’ Day. This annual tradition was started in 2011 as mandated by President Benigno Aquino III’s Proclamation 242.

During the activity, teachers who have been in the service for ten years and above were recognized and awarded for their dedication to the teaching profession.

In his speech, Governor Ryan Singson acknowledged the teachers for their commitment and priceless service. He said that teachers are the partner of parents, active key players in the community and prime movers in nation building.

“Teaching is the noblest profession. A teacher is a hero. A teacher molds not only the minds of the learners but also shapes their character”, Gov Ryan added.

This year DepEd’s celebration is anchored with the theme “My teacher, my hero” which aims, among others, to honor those who are in the teaching  profession; acknowledge and give emphasis on the crucial role, loyal service, and dedicated commitment of teachers in developing globally-minded citizens, nurturing families, strengthening communities, and building the nation; and express gratitude for the positive influences of teachers on Filipino learners. # Source – PIO Ilocos Sur/BDMayor
