PGIS CELEBRATES TOURISM WEEK

The Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur initiated different activities in celebration of the Tourism Week from September 23-25, 2015. The activities aimed to discover and promote other tourism potentials of Ilocos Sur including eco-tourism.

“The provincial government is always working with the Department of Tourism to promote and develop our tourist sector. In addition, we will also improve eco-tourism in the province to attract more tourists.” Gov. Ryan Singson said.

The activities include photography competition where it was participated in by both professional and aspiring photographers in the locality; the jingle competition and the fashion show. 

Foods locally produced in the province became the subject of the photography contest. This is to showcase the different Ilocano Cuisine. Each contestant had submitted one entry. Among the numerous entries, the photo of “cocoa tablea” by Dr. Rommel Taqueban was chosen as the winner. The photo of “dinengdeng” by Mr. George Aguinir and the “pinakbet” by Mr. Dexter Agpalo were also chosen as runners up. The winners received trophy plus fifteen thousand pesos, ten thousand pesos and five thousand pesos respectively.

The jingle competition became an avenue for the local composers. Using the international language, Mr. John Kurt Balbuena of Ilocos Norte was declared as the winner by his original composition “Yes Ilocos Sur”. This will be used as the new official theme song of the Provincial Tourism Office.

Different traditional costumes especially the known Abel of Ilocos Sur were also showcased through the fashion show conducted at Vigan City Convention Center. 

These activities were geared towards the advancement of tourism industry in the province acknowledging the different potentials of both the products and the people of Ilocos Sur. 

Meanwhile, Governor Ryan Singson is coordinating with the Local Government Unit of Cabanatuan to enter into a memorandum of understanding in order to promote Ilocos Sur in Cabanatuan City, the same as the province will also help Cabanatuan to promote their place. # Source – PIO Ilocos Sur/Mary-vick Addu
